Utah State University Solves Bird Strikes
Professors' solution for large building show dramatic results

At Utah State University one mostly-glass building had killed thousands of birds. It had a UV-reflecting coating protecting materials on the inside. Two faculty members, an ornithologist and an outdoor product designer, came up with the idea of shining UV light on the building to make it appear opaque in that wwavelenght. Over several months of testing, bird strike deaths dropped to zero. The light installation was temporary and a more aesthetically acceptable manner of illuminating the building is being designed.
